Bobby Seale

Social Change Movement:
Bobby Seale was a leader and co founder of the Black Panthers, a party concerned with African Americans political and economic issues. They lead many social protests in their time. They faced obstacles from federal and state governments. They worked through police violence, and legal disruption.

History:
He was born in Dallas Texas to a poor family. He was an aircraft structural mechanic in the U.S. Air force.He attended Merrit College in California as an engineering student. There he became interested in politics. He was inspired by Malcolm X’s views on black liberation at whatever cost. Following Malcom X’s views he and fellow college student, Huey Newton, founded the black panther party for self defense.


Bobby Seale was a co-founder and prominent leader of the black panthers. The black panthers challenged racism and inequality. The group carried guns, used violence and even exchanged gunfire with police. They practiced militant self defense. They wanted to establish mass organizations with community based programs. They eventually organized. socialist survival programs in black communities They would provided free breakfasts for children, established free medical clinics, and help the homeless find housing, and give away free clothing and food. They feed over 10,000 children each morning before they went to school. They were one of the first organizations to struggle for minority and working class emancipation. They wanted economic and political equality of all classes, genders and ethnecticities. Bobby Seale is known as one of the Chicago Eight. These anti-war activists were known for causing a riot outside of the Democratic Convention. The trial is known for judical unfairness and extreme harshness, where at one point Seale was bound and gagged in the court room for demanding the trial be delayed until his lawyer had recovered from an illness and could be present.


Refrences:
Malcom X who inspired Bobby Seales movement in civil rights for all people. He emulated his style of achieving equality using violence and force.

Stokley Carmichael who established the Lowndes County Freedom Organization in 1964. This organization later changed its name to the Black Pather Party.

Martin Luther King Jr who was also a leader in civil rights although fought without voilence was ultimetley working toward the same goals as

Abbie Hoffman who was a defendant during the infamous Chicago eight trial.
